Looking to enjoy the best romantic places in the UK? We put together a list of our favourite places for couples, whether you like the beach, cute stone cottages in the countryside or are looking for a bit of soft adventure. You don’t need to leave the UK to find your romance, as you can easily get in the car and drive to Wales for a quiet time together, or take the train to London for a cosmopolitan weekend out. We tried and tested many places in the country, so here are our favourite romantic places in the UK.
Windermere, Lake District
There is a good reason the Lake District made it to the top of the list. The gorgeous Lake District is one of the most romantic places in the UK. With its beautiful lakes and peaks, forests and rolling hills, the Lake District is fantastic for those looking to escape any digital distractions and spend quality time with their loved ones. We are both soft adventure lovers, and we absolutely love spending time in the Lake District. We especially like Windermere. As a tip, we recommend booking accommodation in advance. The Lake Districts attracts millions of visitors, so it can become rather challenging to find those romantic hotels for couples. Click here to book your hotel in Lake District.
The Cotswolds is a rural area of England covering parts of 6 different counties. However, when people refer to the Cotswold, they most likely think of the quaint streets of Bibury, one of England’s most famed little village. For soft adventure enthusiasts, Cotswolds has a wonderful 102 miles long walking trail. Cotswold has beautiful rolling hills, wonderful grasslands and medieval villages as well as distinctive yellow limestone cottages. We recommend a stay in the Swan Hotel. One of our favourite romantic places in the UK is in Wales, in Snowdonia National Park. If you love adventure, then prepare for a few days of hiking. You can hike Mount Snowdon on a day, but we recommend taking some time to explore other trails around the mountain as well. Remember to check the weather in advance and dress appropriately. Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level. If you want something a little less adventurous, best to rent a beautiful cottage for the weekend and enjoy quiet, romantic walks in the British countryside. Forest of Dean
When we lived in Bristol, we used to take weekly trips to the Forest of Dean. There are so many trails available for soft adventure lovers, but also an array of towns all around where you can book a romantic cottage for the two of you. There are places in the Forest of Dean where you can practice archery, where you can both unleash your inner Robin Hood.
We love the Peak District, which is located roughly one hour away by train from Manchester. There are several walking paths for you to enjoy as well as various places perfect for cute photography. We recommend spending time in Buxton or Chapel-en-le-Frith. Both places are home to an array of quaint streets lined with cottages and wonderful independent shops and boutiques.
Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
Take your loved one and spend a romantic weekend in Edinburgh, one of the most beautiful cities in the UK. Have a lovely walk around Holyrood Park and make your way up to Arthur’s Seat. Don’t forget to pack a picnic in order to have a truly romantic time with a view. Here is an interesting fact: one of the most romantic places in the UK, Arthur’s Seat, is an extinct volcano, which erupted around 340 million years ago.
Mount Ben Nevis
Ben Nevis is a mountain in Scotland and the highest peak in the British Isles. Ben Nevis calls for adventure couples who love romance in the form of walks, trails and hikes. There are paths in the mountains where you can admire beautiful rocky terrain with lush, green carpets. Many come to visit Ben Nevis during season, so accommodation can get fully booked. Fort Williams, Scotland
Perhaps your idea of a romantic place in the UK is not in the mountains but in the quaint town of Fort Williams. This recommendation is for Harry Potter fans, who want to ride the Jacobite steam train, which crosses the famed 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct.
St Ives, Cornwall
Are you the sort of couple who loves spending romantic time at the beach? Head to St Ives, a superb town in Cornwall, known for its surfy beaches. Get accommodation in a Cornish cottage and take long walks on the beach.
Love those beautiful British rolling hills? Then head over to Dartmoor, a 954 square kilometres National Park known for walking, horse riding and climbing activities. Check the Buckland Abbey, the Hound Tor, the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary.
Thermae Bath Spa
Indulge in a glass and stone spa with relaxing thermal waters. The Thermae Bath Spa has Roman origins and it features an open rooftop swimming pool which is ideal for couples in search of some romance. Best to arrive before sunset to enjoy some beautiful views with a glass of bubbly.
Stratford-upon-Avon is a medieval market town in Englan. Stratford-upon-Avon is where William Shakespeare was born hence it attracts countless tourists interested in culture and literature. Stratford-upon-Avon is a romantic place in the UK, with its quaint alleyways, beautiful Tudor houses and riverside walks. Visit the Charlecote Park, a country house surrounded by a lovely deer park located on the banks of River Avon.
Portmeirion is a tourist village in Gwynedd, close to Snowdonia National Park. It was designed in the style of an Italian village, which is why you will find yourself in a romantic Mediterranean setting, whilst still in the UK. Portmeirion is owned by a charitable trust.

Durdle Door, Dorset
Love the Algarve and its limestone formation? Head over to the Jurassic Coast and enjoy a walk hand in hand towards the Durdle Door. Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch which looks really beautiful and impressive, especially on a sunny, summer day.
White Cliffs of Dover
The White Cliffs of Dover are truly extraordinary and one of the most romantic places in the UK. The cliffs reach a height of 110 metres and have a beautiful chalk appearance with streaks of black flint. The cliffs stretch for 13 kilometres. Enjoy a walk on top of the cliffs, on a designated footpath, or head down to the beach for a memorable promenade.
Want a cosmopolitan weekend in London for the two of you? Head over to London and spend some exquisite time in one of the best hotels in the capital. We recommend Regent Street or Kensington Gardens. When we want a little bit of vibrant romance, we always go for a weekend in London. Although busy, it does make us feel alive.
