Jae Fai Restaurant benefits from its location next to Thip Samai Pad Thai Restaurant, but you can sample authentic Thai local food here. About the price: it may be expensive if you spend 400 baht for a crab omelet, but in Thailand it definitely matches to its price when considering the huge snowy crab meat, juicy shrimp and other superior ingredients.

The rolled crab omelet, as well as rad na (Plate of pasta with grape juice, shrimp, squid and mussels) is well-known among locals. This restaurant is famed in western countries for a story- Rick Stein had sampled the  rad na. This dish needs time to prepare, so you’d better be patient.

What to order: The rolled crab and egg pie with large fresh white crab meat rolls.

Jok Prince

Jok is a kind of Thai porridge, one of the lightest dishes with strong vanilla and  spice. Usually, it costs about 30 baht (about $1) in the food street or street stalls and is the most fantastic porridge.

This is a small restaurant, next to Sapan Taksin BTS station. It is hard for foreign visitors to find this restaurant as lack of English guides, but it adds an authentic and adventurous feelings in seeking out the place.

This speciality shop offers not so many porridge choices, but more of high quality ingredients with unique recipes.

Try the rice soup here with fine pork balls with or without offal, and provided with a poached egg or ‘century egg’ (a Chinese style of preserved egg) and a sprinkle of green onion. It only costs you about 45 baht for a nice tasty porridge.

What to order: Jok served with a poached egg (โจ๊กใส่ไข่ลวก) and or a century egg.

Sabai Jai Gai Yang

Located in northeast Thailand, Issan Restrurant (Sabai Jai Gai Yang) is a nice choice for locals with open-air environment with a covering.

To be honest, every dish from the menu will impress you with lots of mouthwatering pictures. Don’t worry about your order, just point to a dish picture and smile at the waiter.

We highly recommended Roast Chicken, also named Gai Yang. This is one of the special foods of the restaurant: succulent and delicate with toasted chili dips. Other options to try include grilled liver, pork salad and fresh papaya salad.

Situated on Ekkamai Road and next to Soi, it offers a room for practicing songs with air-conditioning. Besieds, there are live bands on weekends.

Lek Seafood Silom

Lek Seafood Silom is situated in a corner underneath the Chong Nonsi BTS Station, blurring the limit between local restaurants and street food in Bangkok. Bustling Naratiwat Road provides some special seafood, such as steamed catfish in lime and chilli; Chili Crab Meat and dazzling shellfish.

To maintain a genuine local atmosphere, the chairs are plastic, the table is stainless, and the beer should be served with ice. As it is next to Silom Road, this restaurant provides an English menu and all staff can speak some practical English.

What to order: steamed catfish in lime and chilli (ปลานึ่งมะนาว), spicy cockle salad (ยำหอยแครง)

Wattana Panich Restaurant

It is easy to find this old house in Ekkamai Road with a huge pot at the entrance. In the thick gravy, there are soft tender braised beef pieces, tender meat which is deliciously juicy, marinated with ingredients, such as star anise, cinnamon and small wolfberry from China.

Wattana Panich Restaurant is also home to one of the best local restaurants in Bangkok. The open store houses are typical of the Thai style and they can be used as a movie set. This beef noodle ordinarily costs about 80 baht per regular bowl, 100 baht per big bowl. The same as most local Thai restaurants, you can choose many kinds of noodles-sen yai, wide and flat; sen lek of middle size; sen mee, fine as hair. Everyone has different preferences, so you can taste it all.

Thip Samai Pad Thai

This famous restaurant should be on the top list of best local restaurants. Usually called as Pratu Pee, it provides the best Pad Thai in Bangkok.

Ingredients are very fresh, portions are filling. The food is cooked on charcoal of high temperature and is moist but not oily. Pad Thai is rolled into thin layers. This dish costs you about 60 to 200 baht. Don’t miss the fresh orange juice sent from the village every day.

What to order: pad Thai shrimp (ผัดไทกุ้ง) and orange juice.

Boat Noodles in Victory Monument

This is a Bangkok experience that you should not miss. You can find many students holding a bowl of boat noodles as they walk, hot and sweaty.

You can serve noodles with meat broth or a tom yum spicy version. It costs you about 10 baht to choose noodles, with pork or beef, pork balls or crispy wonton. But it isn’t enough to fill your belly, order a pair of bowls like the locals. Put your finished bowls aside.
